A poor diet that lacks essential nutrients generally causes nutritional deficiencies. The different types of nutritional deficiencies and disorders are vitamins and mineral deficiency disorders, obesity, diabetes and related disorders, food allergy and intolerance, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, malnutrition and associated disorders, mental disorders and lifestyle related disorders. As per our research, it is estimated that there were around 925 million undernourished people in the world. Another billion people are estimated to have a lack of vitamins and minerals. In 2013 protein-energy malnutrition was estimated to have resulted in 469,000 deaths down from 510,000 deaths in 1990.

Good nutrition is important for cancer patients. Healthy eating habits are important during cancer treatment. Cancer can change the way the body uses food. Cancer and cancer treatments may affect nutrition. Anorexia and cachexia are common causes of malnutrition in cancer patients. It is important to treat weight loss caused by cancer and its treatment.

  • Track 2-1Importance of Nutrition in cancer patients

The main purpose of food processing is process food are to eliminate micro-organisms (which may cause disease) and to extend shelf life. This also preserves the nutrients present in foods. The nutrient value of food can be changed by the way it is processed, cooked and stored. Food processing can destroy the water-soluble B-group and C vitamins. However, processing and cooking food can also make it safer to store and eat. It deals with food preservation technologies, food chemistry, parameters of food processing, modern food processing trends, food processing industries and practices, food bioactive, novel food processing methods, food packaging, food additives and ingredients and high pressure processing. The global processed food market is estimated at $3.2 trillion. Food processing industry is expected to benefit from this and grow to around $260-billion from the present USD 200-billion in the next 6-years, according to industry expert. It is estimated that potential for processed foods is estimated to reach from Rs 8,200-billion in 2009-10 to Rs13, 500-billion by 2014-15.

Innovations in cancer treatment and prevention over the years have offered new hope to those battling the disease. And the impact has been undeniable: More Americans than ever are surviving cancer. Over the past 20 years, the cancer survivor population has grown by 22 percent, according to the American Cancer Society. That’s about 1.5 million more people who beat the disease, thanks to early detection, lower smoking rates, better screening practices—and improvements in treatment therapies. Today’s medical landscape is rich with promising innovations to treat and prevent cancer, as well as help patients lead healthier lives during and after treatment. At its heart, medical innovation is about challenging the status quo—and, sometimes, conventional wisdom—to uncover new, better and/or more efficient ways to achieve longevity and good health.Nutrition and Cancer and Innovative Treatments deals with nutrition therapy and benefits.

  • Track 4-1 Nutrition therapy and benefits

An optimal nutritional program should ensure adequate intakes of amino acids (both traditionally classified essential and nonessential), carbohydrates, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins by animals through a supplementation program that corrects deficiencies in basal diets (e.g., corn- and soybean meal-based diets for swine; milk replacers for calves and lambs; and available forage for ruminants). Additionally, dietary supplementation with certain nutrients (e.g., arginine, glutamine, zinc, and conjugated linoleic acid) can regulate gene expression and key metabolic pathways to improve fertility, pregnancy outcome, immune function, neonatal survival and growth, feed efficiency, and meat quality. Overall, the proper balance of protein, energy, vitamins and all nutritionally important minerals in diets is needed to make a successful nutrition program that is both productive and economical. Both fundamental and applied research are required to meet this goal. Also crucial to the nutrition program for animals is water. Livestock may have health problems resulting from substandard quality water. Consuming water is more important than consuming food. A successful livestock enterprise requires a good water supply, in terms both of quantity and quality. Safe supplies of water are absolutely essential for livestock.Animal nutrition deals with nutritional benefits on consumption of dairy products, milk, yoghurt, cheese, egg and meat. The global market for premixes is growing at 2-3% per annum. The relevant potential market growth for more specialised feed additives is estimated to be at least 4% per annum. The USA has experienced steady growth over the last few years. It is expected that the USA will work to steady production levels and focus on producing meat for the upper ends of the export market with higher value.

Public Health Nutrition focuses on the promotion of good health through nutrition and the primary prevention of nutrition related illness in the population. Public Health Nutrition focusses on nutritional epidemiological research, the role of nutrition in public health, and the identification of practical solutions to public health problems.  It deals with healthy lifestyle promotion, energy balance and weight management, nutritional education and counselling programs, effects of social and behavioural factors on nutrition, health policies and implementation, epidemiological studies on nutrition, nutritional quality on consumer health and clinical nutrition and study of ant nutrients. Expanding product lines in nutrition markets, a steady infant birth rate, an aging population and several other factors are driving sales for clinical nutrition products in most of the regions worldwide. Paediatric Nutrition is essential for their good health and overall development. Nutrition of Children deals with nutritional requirements in infants and children, ways of prevention and treatment of low birth weight cases, treatment strategies for preventing malnutrition in children, high risk nutritional disorders, child nutrition and pregnancy nutrition. According to the recent studies, the global baby food & Child Nutrition Market in 2011 is estimated be worth USD 38,180.9 million growing with a CAGR of 7.97% during 2007 – 2011 from USD 28,100.0 million in 2007. The Market is estimated to be worth USD 41,521.7 million in 2012 and is forecasted to reach USD 63,681.0 million in 2017.

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Registered Nutritional Therapists use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health. Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing. It deals with Nutrition therapy and benefits, Nutrition and cancer and innovative treatments and Nutrition and Cancer- Clinical Studies. In 2011, the most recent year in which most of the countries reported data, the United States spent 17.7 percent of its GDP on health care, whereas none of the other countries tracked by the OECD reported spending more than 11.9 percent. The United States spends $8,508 per person, two and a half times more than the average of $3,322 for OECD countries. America spends about 50 percent more than Norway, the next largest per capita spender.
