Biography
Prof. Patrick O’Connor is a leading expert in cardiometabolic nutrition, preventive medicine, and metabolic health, with a distinguished record of research, clinical practice, and academic leadership spanning more than 18 years. His work focuses on the interplay between diet, metabolic regulation, and chronic disease risk, particularly in cardiometabolic conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.
He received his Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences and Metabolic Physiology from University College Cork, where his research explored the effects of dietary patterns on insulin sensitivity and vascular health. Following postdoctoral training in clinical nutrition at an internationally accredited cardiovascular research center, he joined Trinity College Dublin, where he now serves as Professor of Cardiometabolic Nutrition in the School of Medicine.
