The relationship between obesity and endocrinology is particularly important because excess body fat can lead to hormonal changes that exacerbate or trigger endocrine disorders. For example, obesity is closely associated with insulin resistance, a precursor to type 2 diabetes, and can also influence the development of conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
